Dutch Rental Market Drama

Number of applications you get when you put a Dutch rental property on the market now

Ah yes, the Affordable Rent Act. Many thanks to former minister Hugo de Jonge. It’s truly a fact that with this horror law you’ve officially delivered a death blow to the already struggling rental market. No property investor keeps their rental homes after tenant changes anymore.

The result: the supply of private-sector rental homes (up to around €2,200) has completely dried up. The target group that cannot, may not, or does not want to buy a home can no longer rent and is forced to live with an ex, parents, in a camper, or on a friend’s couch. Or they end up homeless.

In this video, we show you what happens now when you put a small apartment up for rent for €1,850…
