Tips for Becoming a Real Estate Agent in the Netherlands

If you want to become a real estate agent in the Netherlands, here are some tips:

Find a Workplace

Make sure you start working as a real estate agent as soon as possible. If necessary, work for free. Seriously, work for free if you have to. That’s how I started—by working for free for 4 months at the age of 35, with a family and a mortgage. It’s an investment you might need to make to gain that crucial work experience.

Education

Do you speak Dutch fluently? If so, sign up for a K-RMT or an A-RMT course. If you don’t speak Dutch fluently, enroll in the special training offered by DutchRealtorTraining. This course is specifically designed for non-Dutch speakers who want to become real estate agents in the Netherlands. It’s also extremely useful for those who already speak Dutch, as it covers all aspects of the real estate profession in a very short time.

Online Cleanup

Make sure your online presence is clean. Remove any drunken or semi-naked photos, political opinions, or any other controversial content about yourself from the internet.

Social Media

On your social media profiles (LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.), make sure to have a professional public photo of yourself and indicate that you are now working as a real estate agent. Also, mention the region you’re working in (e.g., Amsterdam area).

Insurance

If your employer hasn’t provided it for you, make sure to get a good professional liability insurance. You absolutely need this!
